Once upon a time, there was a little mouse named Mimi. She lived in a cozy burrow at the foot of a large tree, beside a meadow full of flowers.
Mimi was gentle and kind, but she was very shy.
Whenever she met other animals, she lowered her head and hid behind the tall grass.
“Hello, Mimi!” the rabbit would say.
“H… hello,” she would whisper softly.
Then she would quickly hurry away.
One morning, while gathering a few seeds, she noticed a little hedgehog sitting alone beside a bush.
He looked sad.
Mimi hesitated.
She wanted to speak to him, but her shyness held her back.
She took a few steps forward, then a few steps back.
Finally, she gathered all her courage.
“Hello,” she said softly.
The hedgehog looked up and smiled.
“Hello! My name is Hugo.”
“My name is Mimi.”
For a few moments, they sat in silence.
Then Hugo explained,
“I’ve just arrived in this forest. I don’t know anyone yet.”
Mimi was surprised.
She had thought she was the only one who felt uncomfortable around others.
“I often feel afraid to talk to people too,” she admitted.
“Really?” asked Hugo.
“Yes.”
The two new friends began chatting.
They talked about flowers, trees, birds, and their favorite games.
Little by little, Mimi felt more and more comfortable.
A few days later, Hugo invited Mimi to a small party organized by the forest animals.
At first, the little mouse felt nervous.
But Hugo stayed by her side.
Thanks to her friend, she met the rabbit, the squirrel, the turtle, and the ladybug.
Everyone was kind and happy to meet her.
By the end of the day, Mimi was smiling.
“I had so much fun,” she said.
“So did I,” replied Hugo.
From that day on, Mimi understood that sometimes a simple “hello” is all it takes to begin a wonderful friendship.
And every time she met someone new, she found a little more courage to smile and start a conversation.
Because the most beautiful friendships often begin with one small act of kindness.
